Your Guide to an Okanagan Summer
June 16, 2021Want to do a little exploring and learn more about where all the great locally grown products come from? Hop in the car and go for a drive on the Westside Farm Loop! Many stops are located just a short drive from the Tallus Ridge community.
Not unlike the Westside Wine Trail, the Farm Loop takes you on a self-guided tour of the local farms, orchards, wineries, and other interesting spots showcasing Okanagan farmers. Here are a few spots for you to check out on your drive:
Gellatly Nut Farm: This farm has been operating on the Westside for over 100 years! Jack Gellatly worked hard to cultivate quality trees and the fruits (and nuts) of his labours are thriving on the farm. Harvest time is between September and November, but there’s still plenty to take in at the park during the summer.
Rabbit Hollow: If you’ve ever wanted to get your hands dirty before sitting down to the freshest meal ever, you’ve come to the right place. Rabbit Hollow specializes in interactive meals and classes to educate you in farm-to-table and promise you’ll come away having learned and laughed a lot. They require booking in advance, so visit http://thechefinstead.ca/ to find out more.
Ingram Farms: This family-run farm has a small orchard with cherries, apricots, and peaches on the trees, available to pick when in season. In 2008, they added bees to their farm and have fresh honey available year-round, so they are definitely worth a visit.
Bonfire Culinary Farm: Do you love freshly-picked-from-the-garden tomatoes? Because Bonfire Culinary Farm has 75 varieties for you to choose from! Stop by early to get the first pick of tomatoes and other heirloom produce during picking season.
Off the Grid Organic Winery: Try some delicious wine and learn all about organic farming on this family-run winery. Off the Grid aims to be a completely sustainable operation while creating quality wine. Try the wine, walk the property, and visit with the sheep and goats during your visit.
This is just a small sample of all the spots on the Westside Farm Loop. Be sure to visit https://www.visitwestside.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/farm-loop-brochure-2018web-1.pdf to see the full list of participating farms.
