New Secondary School Proposed for West Kelowna – What We Know So Far
January 22, 20217 Amazing Hikes in West Kelowna You Have to Try
March 8, 2021Whether you’ve been married for years, are newlyweds, in a long-term relationship, or just starting out dating, everyone is in the same boat this Valentine’s Day.
Due to ongoing public health restrictions, it’s likely any extravagant Valentine’s plans are pretty much out the window, but that doesn’t mean you and your significant other can’t have a lovely day.
Let’s Get Take Out!
Since dining in a restaurant is discouraged, getting your fancy dinner to go is definitely an option. To make it feel less like takeaway, plate everything and set the table properly with napkins and flowers – your kitchen table can be just as fancy as a restaurant’s table. And don’t just wear the sweatpants you’ve been wearing for the last six months, dig your fanciest outfit out of the closet and dress to the nines.
Cooking Together
Or, if you and your partner are feeling ambitious, why not make a meal together? The internet is full of recipes that you could shop for, prepare, and eat together – how’s that for romantic? If a full meal feels a little too daunting, try making a fancy decadent chocolate dessert instead. Again, there’s a gold mine of tasty treats online, so decide what sounds best for the both of you and get baking.
To the Outdoors!
If you’re more of an active couple, there are options for socially distanced activities. Weather permitting, strolling together along walking paths can be a quality bonding experience. If you like to work up more of a sweat, there are plenty of hiking trails in the area for you to explore (check out the hiking options at Tallus Ridge). Or if you feel like being silly, and have enough quality snow, build snow forts and have yourselves a (non-competitive) snowball fight. The best part will be afterwards when you can go inside and warm up with some hot chocolate, spiked or otherwise.
Popcorn To-Go!
Perhaps you and your love are more of the stay-at-home types. Another great option for Valentine’s Day is to just stay snuggled up together on the couch and pick something to watch on your favourite streaming service. To add to the experience, many movie theatres are still running their concessions, meaning you can get movie theatre popcorn and other snacks delivered with your preferred delivery app. Who wouldn’t love that?
Get Crafty
If you’re feeling creative, why not make each other valentines like you used to in primary school? Hit up a dollar store for construction paper, stickers, glitter, and glue to see who can make the fanciest (or perhaps gaudiest) valentine. As long as no one’s expecting elaborate paper craft, the whole endeavour can be a goofy and relaxing way to show your affection.
No matter what you decide to do, the whole point is to share the day with the one you love, so don’t lose sight of that. Things won’t be this way forever, but who knows? Maybe you’ll find yourselves a new Valentine’s Day tradition.
