The Best Hiking in West Kelowna
May 8, 2019Go Nuts Over The Gellatly Nut Farm
June 5, 2019The Okanagan is known for sunshine, the breadth of activities and festivals year round, oh, and the many wineries dotting the area. While you can find some of them in Kelowna, the vast majority are situated on the other side of the lake in West Kelowna and beyond. A few you may have already heard about, but others on the list below may surprise you. Take a look at some of the top picks you won’t want to miss checking out.
The Hatch
Never heard about this winery until now? That’s okay, because now you have and should definitely check it out. The Hatch offers a rustic vibe with a farm-like atmosphere and vintage look. In fact, it was actually the first licensed winery in BC so clearly, after being around this long, they’ve got years of experience under their belt. They’ve produced over thirty-five single vineyard wines—you’re sure to find one that suits your tastes while you take in the scenic views.
Rollingdale Winery
When people put passion into their businesses it shows, and that’s exactly the case with Rollingdale Winery. You can tell from the moment you walk in each employee loves what they do and put every ounce of effort into crafting quality in every drop of wine. They’re also dedicated to making the wine-making process organic from start to finish and are 100% family-run. Support a local business and check out what they have to offer.
Indigenous World Winery
The Okanagan has plenty of stories to tell and Indigenous World Winery tells that story through their excellent wines and food. They also take great care to protect the environment in their wine-making process and are passionate about educating people on the rich history of Syilx people. The fantastic valley view you can witness just adds an awesome additional element to an already amazing winery experience.
Mission Hill Family Estate Winery
Initially purchased when it was originally an estate in 1981, it has since flourished as one of the most well-known wineries in the Okanagan. Mission Hill has also had a major architectural renovation that finished in 2002, shaping the location into the place it is today making it a landmark of West Kelowna with its stand-out design, bell tower, viewing terrace, and natural outdoor amphitheatre. The location is expansive with concerts, weddings, and other local events often held there. This makes it a hot spot of local activity and tourism with many tourists curious about the unique building and their wines (which are also outstanding and in many cases, award-winning).
Quail’s Gate Winery
Rated number one on TripAdvisor as not only the best winery, but also the number one thing to do or see while in West Kelowna, this is a place you’ll want to visit. The shop itself is actually in West Kelowna’s first log cabin constructed in 1873, making it a historical landmark in addition to a great place to enjoy a bottle of wine. Enjoy a tasting while you relax and take in the spectacular view from the modern patio, try a delicious charcuterie platter, and discover your new favourite wine.
